Burry Port councillor new chair of community council organisation ‘One Voice Wales’

One Voice Wales, the national representative body for Community and Town Councils in Wales has a new Chair, Cllr. Mike Theodoulou from Pembrey and Burry Port Town Council.

Cllr. Theodoulou is an experienced leader and Chairman having been Founding Chair of Chamber Wales, part of the board that managed Objective One in Wales, Chaired the partnership that set up Finance Wales, the Welsh Development Bank and served on the Welsh Big Lottery Fund committee and represented Wales on the UK Fund as well as a number of other posts in Wales.

Lyn Cadwallader, the Chief Executive of One Voice Wales said, “it’s great to have someone with Cllr. Theodoulou’s experience as our new Chair at a time of challenge and change in public services and I am sure he will drive the organisation forward with energy and commitment. “

Mike Theodoulou said, “It is an honour to chair One Voice Wales. Community and Town Councils are the part of the Local Government family that is closest to our communities and one of the three institutions that have general tax raising powers in the UK. The next few years will see people and communities face difficulties that will require Community and Town Councils to change and respond to these challenges like never before. This is the time for this sector step up and deliver for the communities it serves and Community and Town Councils are already showing that they can do it in many parts of Wales.”

One Voice Wales has a membership of 639 community and town councils out of the total of 735 in Wales. This is one of the highest membership ratios of any representative body in Wales.
