UWTSD joins ‘Meals and More’ initiative tackling holiday hunger

The University’s catering team raised £3743 to support the Meals & More initiative, founded by Brakes wholesale food supplier.

By raising money for the Meals and More initiative every pound the University spends with Brakes generates points that go towards providing food and activities to local kids’ holiday clubs all over the country.

In 2020 Meals & More helped provide a record 330,000 meals and by Summer they hope to extend support to even more families in need!

In a letter to the University, Kate Woodhouse, Chair of Trustees at Meals and More said: “It is heartening to see Brakes customers so motivated by, and committed to, the national issue of holiday hunger. Brakes too remains focused, joining with campaigners such as Marcus Rashford to tackle the plight of so many vulnerable children at these very difficult times.

Meals & More has been supporting the provision of meals at holiday clubs since 2015, not only providing funds, generously donated by our supporters, but also advocating activity, literacy, and fun, reducing isolation and giving the children in our care something to trust and look forward to.”

Kevin Hodson, UWTSD’s Catering and Conferencing Manager said: “The University is pleased to support the Meals and More initiative which is making such a difference to families across the country.  We are all living through very difficult times, but many families are also struggling to afford such basic needs as food. This initiative is one way in which we can help”.

The University has also been providing food parcels and assistance to students who have been required to self-isolate during the pandemic. It teamed up with the Students’ Union to provide a range of support services which included shopping for essentials.
