City centre mobility service open again
The council-run Swansea Mobility Hire service has reopened, with measures in place to keep staff and customers safe
Shoppers and visitors to the city centre with mobility needs can once again hire equipment and access the Changing Place facility at the Swansea Mobility Hire shop at the Quadrant Bus Station. Rental of left luggage lockers also resumes.
The council says customers must book in advance by calling 01792 461785. The service provides powered scooters, wheelchairs and manual wheelchairs to help people who have limited mobility to shop or visit other facilities in the city centre.
At this stage, walk-ins are not guaranteed and will only be possible if equipment is available.
Staff remain unable to deliver equipment to customers elsewhere in the city centre; customers must collect it directly from the shop.
The Swansea Mobility Hire shop has Perspex screens to ensure the safety of staff and customers and there is signage throughout providing clear instructions and reminding customers of the 2m distancing rule.
There are designated waiting areas – one for customers, which includes socially distanced plastic seating, and one for equipment.
Walkways are marked throughout the store and only three customers are allowed to visit at any given time. Customers should queue outside if this limit is reached.
Hand sanitiser is available for customers and staff, and all equipment is thoroughly cleansed after each use.
Swansea Mobility Hire also has an enhanced cleaning schedule, with touch points being sanitised throughout the day.
Staff are keen to welcome customers back. Opening hours: Mon-Sat 9am-5pm.
