GREEN PARTY CANDIDATES –
SOUTH WALES WEST REGION
1. Megan Poppy Lloyd
I’m Megan Poppy Lloyd, I’m a 28 year old chef. I live with my two dogs and a cat. I was born in Newport but found my true home in Neath, where I first moved aged nine. I moved to London to study Politics, then travelled and lived around the world before coming back home.
I have been lucky enough to have volunteered in animal sanctuaries from Abercrave to Goa and travelled widely in Europe working with programs supporting financial rights for artists. I have always been interested in Green politics but meeting my local party and having their support has given me the encouragement needed to run as a candidate.
What will you do for your constituency/region if elected?
If elected I would push for regular and free busses in South West Wales on a hop-on-hop-off system, while also working within the Senedd to improve and maintain regular train links across South West Wales. The environment is struggling, as are people’s pockets. Free and accessible public transport is the logical solution to both of these issues.
I would work to end homelessness and home uncertainty by fighting to uphold the Green Party Promise to build 12,000 new homes every year. Housing is a human right and Wales is more than capable of providing homes to all.
Finally, I would campaign for law-making powers on drug prohibition to be moved to the Senedd. Wales understands our countries issues with drugs, Wales should be the one to resolve those issues.
2. Chris Evans
I’m Chris Evans, I’m 47 and live with my partner and our daughter. I was born in Swansea, and returned here in 2008 after 10 years in Scotland, Spain and Portugal. I work in Swansea University and am also in a local band and look forward to gigging again after lockdown. I got in to politics again whilst studying and chose to be Green after realising none of the other parties are radical enough to fix climate change. I love hillwalking and reading, as well as volunteering with Clydach Community Garden and The Chinese in Wales Association.
What will you do for your constituency/region if elected?
Having a Green voice in the room is incredibly important to ensure Wales has a sustainable and more equitable future. A vote for me and the Greens is a vote which makes your life better, not worse. Many people are tired of the main parties, particularly the corruption and iniquity in Westminster, where billions are handed to donors with little or no accountability. The trick is to vote for someone like me that would stand up to that, rather than other parties that want to silence Welsh peoples’ voices and bow down to the Westminster and Eton elites.
3. Alex Harris
What will you do for your constituency/region if elected?
I have been working to make positive changes to the community around me, such as encouraging the reduction of single use plastic in Porthcawl and now we are close to achieving Plastic Free status for the town. As a Member of the Senedd my priorities would centre on the climate emergency and the need to address the inequalities faced by my constituents. Tackling the climate emergency and improving our local environment creating better life outcomes for the people around us through progressive policies on Housing, Social Welfare and Transport
4. Tom Muller
What will you do for your constituency/region if elected?
I realise that climate and environmental issues need to be urgently addressed. Managing and monitoring the impact and sustainability of human activity at a global level is critically important to ensure a universally accepted standard of living.
Responsibility needs to be taken for securing the future and establishing a fair society. This can be achieved through appropriate representation at local level combined with international cooperation.
In Wales in particular significant resources exist for sustainable energy and food production. A stronger focus is required to fully tap into this potential. Transport in Wales also requires improvement. In particular, greater emphasis should be placed on public transport and cycling infrastructure
