Senedd21: Havard Hughes | Welsh Conservatives | Carmarthen East and Dinefwr

HAVARD HUGHES
WELSH CONSERVATIVE CANDIDATE – CARMARTHEN EAST AND DINEFWR
1. Tell us about yourself:
Havard Hughes is a Carmarthen-based entrepreneur who runs the trade policy consultancy he founded from West Wales. Born in Carmarthen, a Welsh speaker, he attended Ysgol Abergwili and QE Maridunum Comprehensive – before going on to graduate with a degree in Law from Cambridge University. He and his wife Genevieve live on their smallholding just north of Carmarthen.
Hughes previously contested the seat at the 2019 General Election, gaining 14,130 votes, just 297 votes behind the incumbent Plaid Leader’s 2016 Senedd result.
2. What is the most important thing you think the Senedd should do in the next five years?
It is time to burst the Cardiff bubble and the cosy Labour / Plaid consensus that has run Wales for the last 22 years. Wales is more than just Cardiff.
As a member of the Senedd, I will work to build the West Wales economy by getting our fair share of investment in transport and infrastructure. The UK is going global post Brexit and Carmarthenshire needs to make the most of the prospects for free trade across the world.
3. What will you do for your constituency/region if elected?
Ensuring our general hospital at Glangwili is protected from Welsh Labour’s axe;
Getting our rail and road links upgraded; and
Connecting Carmarthenshire’s broadband to homes and businesses.
