Senedd21: Rob James | Welsh Labour | Carmarthen East and Dinefwr

ROB JAMES
WELSH LABOUR CANDIDATE – CARMARTHEN EAST AND DINEFWR
1. Tell us about yourself:
I was brought up in social housing in Neath and now live in Carmarthenshire with Sophie and our two young children.
I graduated from Swansea University, alongside working in residential and domiciliary care supporting adults with brain injury, learning difficulties and mental health issues. It was my work in the care sector that encouraged me to get involved in politics. Determined to play my part, I self-funded my further studies into an MA in Politics whilst working, to gain a greater insight into how politics can bring about real and lasting change for people in their day-to-day lives.
I was elected first as a County Councillor in Neath in 2012, and I’m currently the youngest Labour leader in Wales, serving as opposition leader on Carmarthenshire Council.
2. What is the most important thing you think the Senedd should do in the next five years?
We need a tried and tested Welsh Labour Government to see us through this awful coronavirus pandemic, and then to rebuild a stronger, fairer, greener and more prosperous Wales.
As we come out of this crisis, we must build back better, by securing a Green Deal for Wales – securing high quality sustainable jobs in the new industries of the future; encouraging new business start-ups, delivering well paid, quality jobs close to home.
We must deliver enhanced, clean and affordable bus services for the region; environmental improvements to our town centres; and fast, reliable broadband to facilitate home working.
3. What will you do for your constituency/region if elected?
Plaid has held this seat in the Senedd for more than 20 years – and has very little to show for it. Adam Price has had plenty of time to deliver for local people, but has failed to do so.
I will work with Welsh Labour colleagues to deliver significant investment for the constituency. I will ensure that we tackle air quality issues in Llandeilo, broadband improvements and town centre improvements are delivered.
