Former Brynhyfryd GP surgery being returned to community use

Published

A former doctor’s surgery in Brynhyfryd is being brought back into community use as a base to support families, children and young people in the area.

Swansea Council has bought the empty building on Llangyfelach Road to create one of five Early Help Hubs in the city.

They will be community resources supporting families, children and young people by bringing staff from the council’s Early Help services together under one roof.

The hubs will also host activities to support their work such as parenting groups, baby massage and children or young people’s support groups.

The other hubs will be based at existing council owned community buildings in Penderry, Townhill, Valley and West.

Dave Howes, Swansea Council’s Director of Social Services, said: “Our aim is that the right services are available at the right time and in the right place for every child and young person according to their need.

“The Early Help Hubs will provide preventative and support services to achieve better outcomes for children, young people and families through effective packages of support to those who need it.

“By bringing in these services under one roof within these five communities it will make it easier for those that need support to access it.

“It also makes it easier for our teams to work together and for better integration with services already available from third sector or community groups.”

The hubs will open as and when Covid restrictions allow but in the meantime staff are continuing to work with young people and families directly.
