Rugby club volunteers and local councillors have combined to pay for and install brand new play equipment at Loughor RFC.

The equipment was financed through fundraising by Loughor RFC juniors, a donation from Admiral Insurance and funds from the community budgets of local councillors Robert Smith, Andrew Stevens and Jan Curtice.

The equipment, including a slide and swings, was installed by volunteers from the club through their ‘Heart of the Community’ project.

Upper Loughor Cllr Robert Smith said: “I’m very glad that the council has been able to contribute to this project, and I know how much effort has been given by club members to build this facility which will be great for the kids in the future.”

Penyrheol Cllr Stevens said: “Grassroots sports are at the heart of our local communities and I am pleased to support the excellent work being done in Loughor.

“They are an outstanding community club that is open to all, and I want to commend the brilliant work being done by volunteers, transforming the club for the next generation.

“A huge thanks has to go to all who donated to the fund and our team of dedicated volunteers, special mention to Johnathon Phillips who completed the groundwork.”

Kevin Lewis, Loughor Secretary said: “I want to thank all those in the community for volunteering for the club, and a big thank you goes to the three councillors for the grant. Hopefully, it will get children outdoors and involved in the local sports club.”
