Midnight swimmers to herald return of Swansea leisure centres

Swansea’s leisure centres are gearing up to re-open as soon as their lockdown is over – with Penlan Leisure Centre opening just seconds after midnight on 3 May
Swansea Council’s leisure centres at the LC Swansea, Penlan, Penyrheol, Morriston, Cefn Hengoed and Bishopston – all operated by Freedom Leisure – will open the doors to their gyms, pools, sports halls and fitness classes from Monday 3 May.
Penlan Leisure Centre will open at a minute past midnight on May 3 to welcome eager swimmers and gym users.
Ivan Horsfall Turner, managing director of Freedom Leisure, said: “We thank all our customers for their patience, support and loyalty once again during the second lockdown period of closure of our leisure centres.
“Swansea’s leisure centres will continue to provide a Covid-safe place to give customers the reassurance we know they need.”
The Penlan gym and pool will be open from 12.01am on the morning of May 3.
Tracey McNulty, Swansea Council’s head of cultural services, said: “We’re grateful that our partners Freedom can reopen our leisure centres. We look forward to seeing our residents have the opportunity to enjoy the first class facilities that Freedom operate on our behalf once more.”
Leisure centre staff have extended hours to ensure they are ready for all customers. Details: www.freedom-leisure.co.uk.
