Neath Port Talbot Council has said that a Fun Day event planned by the organiser for Neath’s Gnoll Estate Country Park this Bank Holiday weekend cannot go ahead.

The council said that visitors to the park, obeying existing Covid-19 restrictions, continue to be welcome however, but outdoor activities remain somewhat restricted.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the council said: “A franchise holder at Gnoll Estate Country Park has the potential to make facilities such as small rides available in the summer season including larger ‘Fun Day’ events as in previous years, but unlike past events these must comply with Covid-19 restrictions and guidelines.

“An events management plan and risk assessments tailored to meet the Covid situation have yet to be agreed by the Council’s Safety Advisory Group for these events.

“Until the Council is satisfied that suitable and sufficient arrangements are in place by the franchise holder to control events in line with Covid requirements, and ensure they are delivered safely for the visiting public, then they will not be allowed to take place at The Gnoll.”

The statement continued: “The council understands the keenness of the franchise holder to offer recreational facilities to the public, having not had access to the site all last year due to covid, but it must be satisfied that there are no community safety issues.”
