St Davids RNLI go to the aid of crew on 9m yacht in difficulty

St Davids RNLI’s all-weather lifeboat was called to the aid of a 9m yacht in difficulty around five miles off the coast of St Davids Head on Sunday (2 May)

The volunteer crew launched the lifeboat Norah Wortley just before midday and made their way to the casualty vessel which was suffering engine failure and had a rope stuck in their running gear.

Due to the weather deteriorating the crew towed the boat to Fishguard Harbour where it would be better protected to enable repairs to be carried out.

St Davids RNLI spokesperson said: “This was the perfect situation in which to put our new towing equipment to the test during a service call after plenty of training over the last few exercises.

“When out at sea, we would remind everyone to always wear an appropriate lifejacket, always carry a means of calling and signalling for help and always check the weather and tide times.”
