Curtain up for outdoor theatre at Oystermouth Castle

Sounds of good cheer, laughter, and applause, will fill the grounds of Oystermouth Castle once more in August when Quantum Theatre’s band of brilliant actors take to the outdoor stage.

London-based Quantum Theatre are touring the UK this summer and Swansea Council present their productions of Treasure Island on Thursday 12 August at 3pm, and A Midsummer’s Night Dream on Friday 13 August at 7.30pm, with support from Home From Home Original Cottages.

Cllr Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council’s cabinet member for investment, regeneration and tourism, said: “These promise to be wonderfully funny and lively productions of theatre classics – and they will take place in the glorious setting of Oystermouth Castle.

“Quantum’s outdoor theatre shows are the first events of their kind in Swansea this year, and I’m confident that those who attend will be enchanted by exciting, funny productions designed to appeal to the whole family and suitable for all.”

There will be plenty of swashbuckling action in the first of Quantum’s two shows, a lively adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic tale, Treasure Island. The story follows young Jim Hawkins on his journey into the murky underworld of pirates and buried treasure on board the Hispaniola.

We journey into an enchanted world of magic, laughter, and healing, for the second show, Shakespeare’s most enduringly popular comedy of love and intrigue, A Midsummer Night Dream.

Both shows, specially adapted for the outdoor stage by Quantum’s Michael Whitmore, are bursting with energy that deliver an hour or so of wonderful entertainment for the whole family to enjoy.

Theatre-goers can be assured that the event will be fully compliant with Welsh Government coronavirus guidance at the time.

Cllr Robert Francis-Davies added: “It’s great to be able to welcome events back to Swansea once again. Being in the open air, outdoor theatre provides additional assurance for audiences starting to experience events for the first time. Our Events Team will have everything in place to deliver a safe and enjoyable experience for all.

“So, pack a picnic and something to sit on to make yourselves comfortable in the grounds of Oystermouth Castle for an hour or so of lively theatre.”

Treasure Island and A Midsummer’s Night Dream are Quantum Theatre productions brought to Mumbles by Swansea Council and supported by Home From Home Original Cottages.
