New signage and interpretation panels have been installed by Pembrokeshire County Council (PCC) at the Cleddau Reaches walk on the banks of the Western Cleddau in Haverfordwest.

Opened last year, the circular Cleddau Reaches route has become incredibly popular thanks to its peaceful setting, with over 19,000 users recorded in the first six months.

“We’re delighted with the response to the Cleddau Reaches walk,” said Cllr Paul Miller, Pembrokeshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Economy, Tourism, Leisure and Culture.

“With our partners, our work on green infrastructure on the outskirts and in the heart of Haverfordwest is an integral part of our vision to revitalise and regenerate the town by creating a more appealing and attractive environment.”

The signs highlight the local biodiversity and two other walking routes in Haverfordwest – Fortunes Frolic and the Saltings Nature Reserve, which is managed by Haverfordwest Town Council.

This is part of the ongoing collaborative Cleddau Reaches project involving Pembrokeshire County Council, Haverfordwest Town Council, Bridge Meadow Trust, Natural Resources Wales, Haverfordwest Kayak Club and supported with funding from these groups and Welsh Government and the Communities Landfill Tax Fund.

Cllr Thomas Tudor said: “As the county councillor for the Castle Ward, I welcome the new signage for the Green Infrastructure project. It will assist in increasing footfall into Haverfordwest town centre which is an essential part of the Haverfordwest Master Plan ‘A Vision for the Future’. As such, the Green Infrastructure Project with its circular footpath can only complement and support the goals and aspirations of the Master Plan in transforming Haverfordwest Town centre into a vibrant, busy and exciting place for all to visit.”
