Two-night Oystermouth Road closure for Arena drainage works

Oystermouth Road is set to be closed overnight for two nights starting tonight (October 25) so the new Swansea arena can be fully connected to the drainage system.
Traffic will also be reduced to one lane eastbound during the day on Tuesday for a short stretch alongside Tesco at the West Way junction so engineers can dig a six metre-deep trench to make the connections and complete the work.
Mark Thomas, Cabinet Member for Environment Enhancement and Infrastructure Management said: “We’d like to thank motorists and residents alike for their patience. There has been a lot of work done on Oystermouth Road over the last few weeks to remodel this section of road and we’ve been fortunate to get this work done during the night with minimal disruption.
“This latest piece of work is a critical part of the upgrade that will connect Copr Bay to Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water’s sewage and water infrastructure. Six metres is about the height of a house and it takes specialist contractors to do it.
“It’s inevitable the work will cause delays and we’re doing all we can to minimise them by making sure the excavations are completed as quickly as possible. We chose this period to do it because the traffic tends to be a bit quieter.
“We do want to apologise to anyone who might get caught up in any delays or congestion. When the work is done it’ll mean these essential water and sewage connections will operate hassle-free for years to come.”
