Budget supermarket Lidl submit plans for Blackpill store

Budget supermarket Lidl have submitted plans to build a new store on the site of the former Halfway Garage on Mumbles Road in Blackpill.
After initially making tentative ‘Pre-App’ enquiries back in July, the supermarket chain have now submitted formal plans to Swansea city planners for a supermarket on the site.
Plans would include the demolition of adjacent semi-detached homes at numbers 50 and 52 Mumbles Road.
The 2,194 sq.m proposed store is larger than the original 1,795 sq.m premises initially mooted, however the proposals for a drive-thru unit appear to have been scrapped.
50 car parking spaces are proposed at the front of the building, along with improved access onto Mumbles Road.
The site was previously occupied by a Shell petrol garage, however the site has remained empty since 2017 and the garage itself demolished and all below ground infrastructure removed.
