In court, South Wales Police explained how officers patrolling Wind Street at around 3.30am on 21 August came across an altercation between two men.

On arriving at the scene they found a victim who had suffered several injuries and was missing parts of his top and bottom lip, believed to have been bitten by the suspect.

The victim was taken to Morriston Hospital following the attack for plastic and reconstructive surgery. He was left with a lifelong visible injury to his face.

CCTV of the incident and Automatic Facial Recognition identified Martin Davies, 40, from Winch Wen, Swansea to be the suspect.

Davies was arrested following an appeal by Police on social media.

Detective Inspector Gareth Jones said:“Martin Davies did not know the victim that he attacked that night, whilst most others were enjoying their night.

“This kind of violent aggression will not be tolerated, the victim had to undergo plastic surgery to recover from his injuries and I hope that this sentence serves as a warning and a deterrent for those intent on inflicting violence.”

At the time of the attack, Davies was already subject to a community order having punched a woman in the face, causing her to fall. He had five previous convictions for violent assault.
