Friends of Ravenhill Park in Swansea were delighted to receive a grant of £2,686 to hold a range of outdoor activities and organise an event to celebrate for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Mrs Moyna Difrancesco, Treasurer at the Friends of Ravenhill Park, said:  “The COVID-19 pandemic has brought home how important public green spaces are for everyone’s health and wellbeing. Although the Friends have managed to operate safely over the past two years we were often asked when we would be able to have activities for our community again.

“This wonderful funding will allow us to provide events to help our older community members enjoy the company of others, through holding a choral, afternoon tea party in a beautiful, outdoor setting where they can be safe to celebrate HM Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee.

“We will be holding outdoor activities for children and families with bouncy castles, games, fun-crafting and entertainment which they have all missed over the past two years. The funding will also allow us to buy outdoor shelters and items that will enable us to continue to provide ongoing community participation for a number of years.”

Robert Roffe, Head of the Mid and West Wales region at The National Lottery Community Fund, said: “We are delighted to be able to award this funding to all three of these groups thanks to National Lottery players. Around eight in ten of our grants are for under £10,000 – going to grassroots groups and charities like these three in Swansea, bringing to life amazing ideas that matter to their communities.”
