New Audiology Services Launch at HMT Sancta Maria Hospital

HMT Sancta Maria Hospital in Swansea’s SA1 is launching a new range of audiology services as part of its Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) department.
From 23rd April the hospital will offer Wax Removal and Hearing Assessments with further services planned for the coming months.
The new services will be led by audiology consultants, Nicola Phillips and Sarah Jones from Ear Care Cymru. Nicola has worked with Sancta Maria since 2008 while Sarah has been with the hospital for five years.
The move to the state-of-the-art hospital in SA1 has allowed for the expansion of the audiology service with investment in new equipment including a soundproof hearing booth.
Tony Barrett, Chief Executive of Healthcare Management Trust which owns and operates HMT Sancta Maria Hospital comments: “We are delighted to bring a wax removal clinic to Sancta Maria Hospital. A build-up of wax can cause hearing loss and discomfort and we are looking forward to offering patients this short and painless procedure that will have a big impact for them.
“We are also offering hearing assessments as part our new audiology services. Using specialist equipment within our soundproof booth we can assess patients’ hearing and refer directly to ENT consultants if required. Nicola and Sarah will be working collaboratively with our ENT and Radiology colleagues in offering a complete hearing and ear care Pathway.
“These new, affordable, services give more options to patients accessing hearing and ear care services. Patients can self-refer by contacting Sancta Maria directly so there’s no need to visit the GP first.”
It is anticipated that additional services including tinnitus assessment and advice will launch in the near future.
Tony continues: “We understand that patients can have difficulty accessing Audiology appointments such as wax removals. Our new hospital facility is well equipped to offer this service within the ENT department and I want to congratulate Nicola and Sarah on bringing this forward and initiating these much-needed clinics.”
HMT Sancta Maria Hospital is owned and operated by the Healthcare Management Trust, a not-for-profit healthcare organisation that ploughs its surplus back into medical research and local community causes.
