Retired teacher dies after Burry Port assault


Retired teacher Peter Ormerod, aged 75, who suffered serious injuries in an incident in Burry Port on Saturday night (24 September), has died in hospital.
Dyfed Powys Police have charged Hywel David Williams, aged 39, of North Clive Street, Grangetown, Cardiff, with grievous bodily harm (GBH).
Williams appeared before Llanelli Magistrates Court on Wednesday (28 September) when he was remanded into custody.
The incident, which took place at 10.45pm on Saturday night (24 September) on Station Road in the town, has shocked local residents, many of whom remembered Peter from his teaching days.
Following the sad news of Peter’s death, his family have paid tribute to him, saying: “Peter was a well-respected teacher and member of the community.
“A very loved and loving father, grandfather, brother and friend.”
The family have requested privacy at this difficult time.
