New Russell Street apartment building to get green roof thanks to lottery funds
A four-storey apartment building under construction on Russell Street in Swansea City Centre is set to get a David Attenborough Biodiverse roof thanks to funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

The 21 apartments are being built by social housing organisation Pobl.
Pobl say the green roof has a number of positive environmental impacts such as improved biodiversity and air quality at this location.
It will also help to cool the building in summer thus reducing the need for air conditioning and lowering the energy use required to cool buildings.
A proven benefit of green roof is that it slows down the rate of surface water run-off from the roof – thus reducing the potential in the area for flash flooding during heavy rainfall.
Pobl say that once in bloom, the green roof will benefit not only the future residents of its Russell House apartments, but also local people in the surrounding neighbourhood.

Rosy Steel, Project Manager at Pobl Group said: “We are delighted to have received this money from the National Lottery Heritage Fund to allow us to include the Green Roof as part of our Russell House redevelopment.
“Both new residents and the local community will benefit from this attractive and environmentally friendly feature, and it will leave a lasting positive legacy on the area for years to come.
“At Pobl, placemaking is at the heart of our developments, and this is a great example of how we are striving to create truly sustainable homes in places where people want to live.”
