Long-serving group boosts Lord Mayor’s charities

The Swansea branch of Soroptomists International, a charity which aims to transform the lives and status of women and girls, has been part of local communities since 1933 and raised £300 for the Swansea Lord Mayor charities, Maggie’s Centre and Zac’s Place.

Lord Mayor Mike Day invited the group to the Lord Mayor’s Parlour so that group members Angela Ball, Norma Glass and Carole Davies could hand over the money on behalf of the group.

He said: “The Soroptomists have been campaigning on behalf of women and girls in Swansea for getting on for a century through education and empowerment. It’s a cause that’s still extremely important today.

“I want to thank them for thinking of Maggie Centre and Zac’s Place. Both are two great locally-based charities that touch people’s lives every day.

“Both of these groups depend on the generosity and spirit of the people of Swansea for their funding. Without support from so many fundraisers like the Soroptomists they couldn’t do the great work they do in our communities.”
