Two hospitalised after Horton garage fire

Two people have been taken to hospital after a garage fire in a Gower village.

Five fire crews from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service attended the blaze around 5pm last night (Tuesday 14 March).

The two-floor detached garage at a property in Horton was well alight when firefighters attended and was severely damaged in the blaze.

A spokesperson from Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 5.12pm on Tuesday, March 14th, crews from Reynoldston, Swansea West, Swansea Central, Gorseinon and Tumble were called to an incident in Horton, Swansea, following reports of a garage on fire.

“On arrival, crews found a detached garage, measuring approximately 50x10m consisting of two floors well alight.

“Crews extinguished the fire using two breathing apparatus sets, two hose reel jets and one 45m jet.

“Once extinguished the crews continued to dampen down, the building was severely damaged by the fire. Two casualties were conveyed to hospital.

“Crews left the scene at 7.36pm.”

The ambulance service have confirmed that the two casualties were taken to Morriston Hospital, one by road and the other by air ambulance.

A spokesperson for the Welsh Ambulance Service said: “We were called yesterday (14 March) shortly before 5:15pm to reports of a fire in Horton, Swansea. We sent two rapid response vehicles, one emergency ambulance and a duty operational manager to the scene, where we were supported by the Wales Air Ambulance.

“One person was taken by road to Morriston Hospital, Swansea, and another was flown to Morriston Hospital, Swansea.”
