Transport Minister fails to give reassurances over new St Clears station

The local Senedd Member for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire, Samuel Kurtz MS, raised this issue of source funding, following local concerns from representatives within Carmarthenshire County Council.

Despite investment of £5 million from the UK Government, there is little to no progress taking place on the ground. This has left many local residents confused and concerned about the future of the project.

Mr Kurtz pressed for clarity on the project during an exchange in the Senedd with Lee Waters MS. However, despite the line of questioning the Deputy Minister failed to give concerned local residents’ genuine assurances over St Clears Station.

Speaking outside the Senedd’s chamber, Samuel Kurtz MS said: “Local constituents want to see improved access to public transport, yet there appears to be unnecessary delay and confusion from the Welsh Government when it comes to St Clears’ new station.

“The UK Government have stumped up the cash to make this project successful by investing £5million in support. Yet the Welsh Government still refuse to provide adequate time scales or commitments for the new station.

“We need clarity sooner, not later. That’s why I will continue to press the Deputy Minister on this matter.”
