Scratch and Sniff menu makes “perfect scents” for Rasoi
Swansea’s multi-award winning Indian fusion restaurant, Rasoi, has announced it has become the first restaurant in the UK to launch a ‘Scratch and Sniff’ menu after partnering with a digital printing technology firm to develop the revolutionary concept.

Whilst scratch and sniff printing has been around for a while in the perfume industry, no one has been able to apply it to the hospitality industry – until now.
The owners of Rasoi, brothers Jas and Suki Kullar, said it made “perfect scents” to launch the concept which means diners at both its SA1 Waterfront and Pontlliw restaurants will now be able to select anything from a bhuna to a biriani just by using their sense of smell.
Jas Kullar said: “We’ve often thought how amazing it would be to apply the scratch and sniff marketing techniques used by the big fragrance companies to a menu. So, we set about looking for a specialist printing company who would work with us to develop the idea further.
“Working with a printing company, we developed the technology over a number of months by creating droplets of heavily spiced oil for each of our signature dishes which are then captured in microscopic capsules. Once lightly rubbed, these capsules break and release the spice scent. They form part of a screen-applied finish that appears as a scratch and sniff photo on the printed menu.”
Suki Kullar added: “We hope our scratch and sniff menus will intrigue our customers from Swansea and beyond. We know they have come to expect something a little different from us and we are always working hard to come up with fresh ideas for our Rasoi brand. Rasoi has always been at the forefront of modern fusion cuisine and the scratch and sniff menu is the kind of bold, quirky idea that we really love. It just makes perfect scents!
“If the menu is a success, we are hoping to incorporate scratch and sniff to all our marketing materials, adding another sensory element to our customers’ experience. We’re sure that receiving a leaflet that smells of curry will get the tastebuds going and encourage more bookings at Rasoi, who nose?!”
The Kullars are two of Swansea’s most impressive multi-award-winning entrepreneurs. The brothers set up Rasoi Indian Kitchen in Pontlliw when they were just teenagers, and they now own Rasoi Waterfront in Swansea’s SA1, Rasoi Catering which provides outside catering services and the Heritage Park Hotel in the Rhondda.
April fool!
While the Rasoi’s menu isn’t scratch and sniff, it is still worth checking out! Visit rasoiindiankitchen.co.uk for more info!
