Castle set to host summer outdoor theatre shows
Outdoor theatre is set to return to Swansea this summer – with stories from two popular British literary icons heading to Oystermouth Castle

Shakespeare’s romantic comedy Twelfth Night is due to play in the grounds of Oystermouth Castle on Wednesday, August 9.
The Tale of Peter Rabbit and Benjamin Bunny, adapted from stories by Beatrix Potter, will be performed at the same venue the following day.
Both performances are being organised by Swansea Council.
Council cabinet member Robert Francis-Davies said: “Outdoor theatre is always extremely popular at Oystermouth Castle and we’re delighted to be welcoming it back once again this year. Both productions should be thoroughly entertaining and memorable for both visitors and residents alike.
“I thank our event sponsors holidaycottages.co.uk for helping us to entertain local audiences in this way.”
Twelfth Night – full of music and mistaken identity – is scheduled for 7.30pm on Wednesday, August 9, and is presented by Immersion Theatre who stage shows across the UK.
Family show The Tale of Peter Rabbit and Benjamin Bunny is scheduled for 2pm on Thursday, August 10. It’s presented by Quantum Theatre who have staged performances at the castle in previous years. They’re another company that’s won applause around the country.
Serena Pearce, regional communities manager of event sponsor holidaycottages.co.uk said: “We’re proud to sponsor Oystermouth Castle’s 2023 Outdoor Theatre once again this year.
“We’re supporting our local communities and our sponsorship helps to provide entertainment for local families and holidaymakers during one of the busiest holiday periods of the year.
“We believe in sustainable tourism and want to build lasting relationships with our communities so they can continue to thrive for years to come, making their areas good places to live in and visit.
“The team at our Mumbles office look forward to seeing the success of the events lined up this summer.”
Oystermouth Castle towers over the Mumbles seafront, with views over Swansea Bay. It’s open daily to September 30 from 11am-5pm and at weekends in October.
Outdoor theatre attendees are encouraged to pack a picnic and settle into the shows or make use of the local shops, restaurants, bars, cafes and ice cream parlours.
