Right royal knees up at Swansea’s Quadrant Shopping Centre

People from all corners of Swansea came together to raise a cuppa and enjoy brownies, Victoria sponge, and many other tasty treats at Swansea’s Quadrant Shopping Centre over the weekend, to celebrate the King’s Coronation.

Organised as part of the UK-wide, Eden Project Communities Coronation Big Lunch, Sunday’s royal knees up saw people enjoy the true meaning of community as new friends were made and families came together to celebrate the historical occasion.

One shopper said: “I’m 87 years old and I remember watching the Queen’s Coronation on a black and white TV in Porthcawl when I was a teenager.

“It’s fantastic seeing the celebrations once again and it’s made even better that I can enjoy it with my grandchildren and great-grandchild.

“We’ve had a brilliant time at the Quadrant, it’s really been an afternoon to remember.”

With cakes, teas and coffees provided by Swansea’s HQ Urban Kitchen, the celebration was a true reflection of how the city come together to provide something for everyone. All treats and drinks were completely free, ensuring no one went without.

Commenting on the event, is centre manager, Lisa Hartley: “It was fantastic seeing so many people unite to celebrate such a momentous occasion.

“We saw strangers come together and share stories, while children put their artistic skills to the test on our blackboard and chalk wall!

“We were blown away by the friendships, comradery and joy, experienced throughout the afternoon.”
