Swansea University’s ‘Big Clean Up’ for the King’s Coronation

The litter pick took place at Singleton Park; in Brynmill; on Singleton beach and at Swansea University’s Bay Campus on Fabian Way.

As well as staff and students, Swans Club Ambassador, Lee Trundle also participated in the litter pick on Singleton beach. 

Pupils from Danygraig primary school also joined in proceedings.  

Niamh Lamond, Registrar and Chief Operating Officer at Swansea University was at the Singleton beach site. She said: “It’s wonderful to see so many of our staff, students and alumni here today engaging in the local community with representatives from the Swans and Danygraig primary school, for a cause as worthy as looking after our environment.  At Swansea University, we are committed to creating more sustainable futures, and being part of the King’s Coronation and ‘The Big Help Out’ with an event like ‘The Big Clean Up’ represents the perfect opportunity to raise awareness about being more environmentally friendly.  It’s been an excellent opportunity for new and seasoned volunteers to come together with the community and was great fun.”    

Lee Trundle said: “As someone who regularly uses the beach myself, I think this is fantastic, and especially great to get the children involved at this stage of their lives to teach them to appreciate the environment, which is excellent news for the future.”

Kathryn Watkins, teacher from Danygraig Primary School said: “As a school, we’ve been trying to re-engage with the community after Covid, and something like this is great as we want the children to be active citizens and make a difference locally.”

Katryn Kane and Ellie-Jaye Hoey, pupils from Danygraig said: “We like to keep the beach clean to help the community and to help the planet for the future.”
