Owner director of Mortgage Advice Bureau Swansea Richard Hullin and co-director David Lewis made Faith in Families their chosen charity for 2023, pledging to raise £5000. The Mortgage Advice Bureau Foundation then pledged to match fund £5,000 through its grant funding program.

Richard and David raised the money in three ways: they set up a fundraising page on their website, held a golf day at Clyne Golf Club on May 12, and Richard and his clients and friends Stuart Hughes and Daniel Alfei competed in the Great Gower Run – a gruelling 20-mile race across Gower on May 20.

The money raised from race sponsorship, the golf day and the online fundraiser has reached £5,000 so the Mortgage Advice Bureau Foundation has match-funded it as promised. The money will go towards Faith in Families’ Brighter Futures project, which is focussed on children’s mental health.

Brighter Futures is delivered in 40 local schools and through Faith in Families’ Bonymaen Community Cwtch, Clase Community Cwtch and Teilo’s Community Cwtch. It supports over 500 children each week to be brave and understand their emotions and pain.

Faith in Families CEO Cherrie Bija explains: “Children who have experienced often multiple adverse childhood experiences and are struggling with big emotions, such as anger and anxiety, often display this in unwanted behaviours, meaning that they find life difficult and confusing. Our Brighter Futures project works to support these children, helping them to develop into happy adults.

“It’s fantastic that Richard and David have succeeded in raising £5,000 for this important project. We really appreciate all the time and effort that has gone into this and want to extend our thanks to them and everyone who contributed. The cost-of-living crisis deeply affects the wellbeing and mental health of children and young people who are already struggling. It’s a real tsunami that’s going to hit us and our young people massively – so

it’s more important than ever to provide mental health support within the communities we serve.”

Richard Hullin added: “We’re so pleased to have achieved our fundraising target. We’re hugely impressed by Faith in Families, and it was a no-brainer to support their Brighter Futures project, which does such amazing work for children who are desperately in need. We’re delighted the money raised will help Faith in Families continue their great work, and we encourage anyone who has a bit of money spare to contribute to the crowd funder, which is ongoing.”
