Swansea Council says it is giving motorists free parking at all its city centre car parks on the weekends of 8 to 9 July and 22 to 23 July.

The multi-storey Copr Bay car park next to the city’s new arena is not included in the free offer however.

The council says the free offer is part of a package of support for visitors and city centre businesses, helping to encourage more people to visit the area.

The latest announcement follows on from a weekend-long free parking offer on 24 and 25 June which saw hundreds of motorists take advantage.

Rob Stewart, Leader of Swansea Council, said: “We’re delighted to be able to offer more, free weekend parking during July. Visitors to the city centre were able to take advantage recently to a similar offer and in turn, we hope, has helped to boost trade in the city centre.

“We recognise more needs to be done and that’s why we have announced further free offers as part of a wider package of measures. This includes our plans to introduce a very competitive all day parking charge of just £5 in all city centre car parks.

“Free public transport across the city is also set to return for the school summer holidays, giving families the chance to go on day trips to our beaches and shopping trips in the city centre.”
