Council launches legal action against Stradey Park Hotel owners

Carmarthenshire Council has announced that it is taking legal action against the owners of Llanelli’s Stradey Park Hotel.

The hotel recently closed after its owners decided to house upwards of 200 asylum seekers at the property resulting in the loss of almost 100 jobs.

The first asylum seekers were expected at the former hotel this week, however Carmarthenshire Council has announced that it is taking legal action against the owners of the hotel for changing the use of the property without planning permission.

In a statement, leader of Carmarthenshire Council Darren Price said: “Carmarthenshire County Council have commenced legal proceedings against Gryphon Leisure Limited, Sterling Woodrow Limited, Clearsprings Ready Homes Limited, Robert Horwood and Gareth Street regarding the material change of use without planning permission of the Stradey Park Hotel, Llanelli. The case has been listed for a hearing on 7 July at the High Court at the Royal Courts of Justice, Strand, London.

“The Council is unable to make further comment at this time due to the need to respect the legal process that is underway.”

The council has previously said that it is Carmarthenshire Council has said that it is taking measures to support staff at Stradey Park Hotel “through this period of uncertainty”.

    So much for being a Country of Sanctuary! Carmarthenshire Council will now waste thousands of OUR hard earned £’s on a futile attempt to stop the British Government’s plans. All they can hope for is a delay in the inevitable.
