More than 3,000 reusable drinks bottles have been sent to schools free of charge by the organisers of IRONMAN 70.3 Swansea.

They were originally available to athletes on feed stations around the competition route on July 16 but remained unused.

They’re now being expertly cleaned and will come in handy for the students. IRONMAN 70.3 Swansea took place with the support of Swansea Council and Welsh Government.

Richard Cannon, assistant head and head of key stage four at Dylan Thomas Community School said: “It’s so good that we were one of the schools to receive some of these drinks bottles.

“They’ll help us share messages of healthy living and the re-use of materials.

“The bottles will be gifted to pupils involved in sporting activities and clubs in and out of school hours.  We’re a true community school in every sense of the word and sport’s a key part of our success and the work we do.”

IRONMAN 70.3 Swansea race director Rebecca Sutherland said: “At IRONMAN we’re always looking for additional ways to improve our sustainability, whether it’s a simple change or a big shift in the way we operate.

“We strive to be as green as possible. The bottle re-use is a great step towards being more sustainable and reducing our waste.”
