New mobile post office to be launched in Gwendraeth Valley communities

A mobile Post Office scheme is being extended into four Gwendraeth Valley communities.

Starting on 6 September, a mobile Post Office will be visiting the Gwendraeth Valley communities of Carway, Pontyates, Ponthenry and Bancffosfelen in Carmarthenshire.

A spokesperson for the Post Office said: “Since the closure of the services at Carway, Pontyates, Ponthenry and Bancffosfelen, we have continued to work to restore Post Office services to the local communities. These visits are all on a Wednesday.

“We are introducing a Mobile service, which is a tried and tested way of maintaining services to smaller communities. The Mobile Service is a travelling Post Office aboard a specifically designed vehicle that brings Post Office services and retail products to communities.

“To add these extra stops there will be changes to the existing Mobile Post Office operated by the Postmaster for Rhyd Y Fro, who already visits 18 communities. 

“From 4 September the current opening hours at Pontneathvaughan, Coelbren, Ynyswen, Glanrhyd, Cilmaengwyn, Pembrey, Llangennech, Duffryn, Rhondda, Penywaun, Resolven and Glyncorrwg, will also change.”

The mobile post office will visit Carway Welfare Hall car park on Wednesday’s between 12.45pm and 1.45pm. It will then visit Pontyates car park between 1.50pm and 2.50pm, and Ponthenry Welfare Hall car park between 2.55pm and 3.45pm before heading onto Bancffosfelen Village Hall between 4pm and 5pm.

Fiona Shanahan, Post Office Network Provision Lead, said: “We are delighted be restoring Post Office services to Carway, Pontyates, Ponthenry and Bancffosfelen. We thank the Postmaster for Rhyd Y Fro for operating the Mobile Post Office Service.”
