Aldi is removing all disposable cutlery from it’s ‘food to go’ meals to encourage a move to reusables

Aldi is removing all single-use cutlery from its Food to Go range – a reduction of 10.5 million or 28 tonnes of wooden forks – by encouraging a switch to reusable options instead.  

The supermarket says the move, which is effective in all UK stores, will help it make a significant reduction on single use items.

Customers are instead being encouraged to use reusable options as a permanent replacement in a bid to reduce their environmental impact.

Luke Emery, Plastics and Packaging Director at Aldi, said: “At Aldi, we are constantly reviewing ways to become more environmentally friendly, and this is another positive change to help us make a difference.

“This will result in a significant reduction in single use materials and help customers to make more environmentally friendly choices.”

The move comes following Aldi’s switch to colourless milk caps across all of its 990 UK stores in a bid to further improve the recyclability of the bottles. The roll out will mean a further 200 tonnes of High-Density Polythene (rHDPE) in the bottle tops can be reused to create new milk bottles.
