The Labour Party has confirmed that it is to investigate what it calls “incredibly serious allegations of completely unacceptable behaviour”.
It comes after the Politico website claimed Davies had “multiple accusations of inappropriate behaviour toward junior female colleagues”.
Many of the allegations are said to have occurred on the parliamentary estate in bars late at night after votes, with one woman just 19-years-old when she was targeted by the married father of two.
In response to the allegations, the 63-year-old MP said he did not “recognise” them, adding: “If I have inadvertently caused offence to anyone, then I am naturally sorry, as it is important that we share an environment of mutual and equal respect for all.”
A spokesperson for the Labour Party said: “These are incredibly serious allegations of completely unacceptable behaviour. We strongly encourage anyone with a complaint to come forward to the Labour Party’s investigation.
“Any complainant will have access to an independent support service who provide confidential and independent guidance and advice from external experts throughout the process.”
Mr Davies has been an MP for Swansea West since 2010. He was previously MP for Croydon Central between 1997 and 2005.
