A first-half strike from Liam Cullen had looked to have given Luke Williams’ side a deserved three points after a strong performance of attacking conviction. It would be not to be for the Swans though as substitute Callum Robinson would sweep home an equaliser with ten minutes to go to level the scorelines to share the points.
The Swans would be the side coming into the game with momentum having impressed in their 3-0 victory over Preston with Matt Grimes, Azeem Abdulai and new number nine Žan Vipotnik all on the scoresheet.
In contrast, a reeling Cardiff side would be rock bottom of the division after a 5-0 defeat at Turf Moor against promotion favourites Burnley would leave the Bluebirds desperate to stop the rot.
The challenge was stern and to gain a positive result Cardiff knew they would have to end their run of nine defeats in the last 11 south Wales derbies and three straight defeats in the fixture in SA1, with Erol Bulut’s side’s last success in Swansea coming in a 1-0 victory back in 2021.
The last meeting between the two sides came back in March where striking duo Cullen and now departed Jamal Lowe scored decisive goals to give the bragging rights to the men in black and white. Whilst the game for long periods threatened a similar outcome, the visitors had more conviction to take something from the game back to the capital.
Swans head coach Luke Williams unsurprisingly named an unchanged side with veteran Joe Allen named amongst a replacement bench containing new signings Nelson Abbey and exciting French winger Florian Bianchini.
Bulut opted to bring in new signing Jesper Daland to his starting lineup. The £3.5m pound capture from Belgian Pro League outfit Cercle Brugge was one of two changes with Alex Robertson also starting in place of experienced Joe Rolls in midfield.
In a rousing atmosphere, it would be the home side to get the better of the early exchanges much to the pleasure of the vocal home faithful. Cullen picking up a loose ball in the Cardiff midfield before firing an effort straight at Ethan Horvath in the Cardiff goal.

It would be Cullen who would strike the first blow for the Swans who would take an early lead in the tenth minute. Ronald’s powerful shot from an acute angle would be too hot to handle for Horvath who could only palm the Brazilian’s effort to the feet of the Swans striker to smash into an empty net from close-range.
The Swans would be slick and decisive with their passing intent on working gaps in the final third. Their efforts would get the better of Cardiff’s initial attempts of a high-pressing game by penning the Bluebirds into their own half.
With their tails up, the home side would come close to doubling their lead at the midpoint of the half. Josh Tymon firing in a teasing ball from the left-hand side across the face of the Cardiff goal but evading a touch from a Swans attacker with the Cardiff defense at six’s and seven’s.
Cardiff would offer little at goal within the first period and would be wasteful with what they would produce. Forward Yakou Méïté finding a rare moment of space on the left-hand side to drift inside his marker but the Ivorian international would only be able to fire high and wide when well-placed on the edge of the box.
The Swans would carry on where they left off after the break looking the more inventive of the two sides. Franco this time showing good feet to chip a clever return pass to Ronald inside the area but the Brazilian would not be able to gain a decent contact to trouble Horvath.
Cardiff, however, would be still in the contest and as the half would progress both sides would be sloppy in possession leading to a disjointed period where the next strike would be vital to the game’s climax.
With ten minutes to go, it would go to the visitors against the run of play after a spate of substitutions. A quick break down the right-hand side seeing Ollie Tanner pick out Robinson to lash home into the bottom right-hand corner leaving Lawrence Vigouroux, a bystander for the majority of proceedings helpless to stop the effort.
The last ten minutes would be fast and frantic with the away side looking to capalise on the momentum gained from the equaliser. As tempers flared, visiting manager Bulet would be dismissed on the sidelines and the Swans search for a winner. The scores though would remain level and the points would be shared.
