Nunes, 20, joined the Bees from Gremio for a reported fee of £10 million in August 2024 but has failed to break into Keith Andrews’ squad this season, opening up an opportunity for a January loan.
The Brazilian speedster has made five substitute appearances for the West London club, having previously played 20 times for Brazil’s top-flight club Gremio, where he scored three goals.
“He is really good one-on-one. He has creativity – a lot of Brazilian swag, if you want to say it like that,” said Swansea head coach Vitor Matos.
“He can play on the left, he can play on the right. [He is] right-footed, but really good with both in terms of first touch and dribble, so we’re really happy that we can have him.
“Now it is about getting the best out of him.”
Nunes could come straight into the Swansea squad when Matos’ side head to the MKM Stadium to face high-flying Hull City in the Championship on Saturday if his registration is completed in time.
“The Championship is something that is different for him. He knows that as well,” Matos added.
“He has big talent, big potential, and we want to help him reach the level he wants.
“Then of course in the end of the season he’ll return [to Brentford]. We hope that is a perfect marriage for everyone and we can see all the best of Gustavo in this short time.”
Swansea have been searching for a winger throughout the January transfer window, and now Nunes will provide competition for fellow Brazilian Ronald, Eom Jisung, and Zeidane Inoussa.
“When I heard the news that there was a chance to join Swansea, I was very happy and very excited,” said Nunes.
“I would describe myself as a very fast player, I am very good in one-on-ones, and I want to help the team by scoring a lot of goals and providing assists.
“I think we are going to have good moments together, and I cannot wait to start.”
