The bus company says the increases are necessary to maintain services, following “the UK Government decision to increase the National Living Wage above the rate of inflation and the increase in employer’s National Insurance contribution”.

From 28 April, after the Easter holidays, fares to Cefn Saeson school in Neath will be £2,20 for a single, £3.30 for a return and £14 for a weekly ticket.

Single fares to Bishopston Comprehensive school will also be raised to £2.20.

Children travelling to Cefn Hengoed will have to pay £1.70 for a single fare from 28 April.

Fares to Cwmtawe school will increase to £2.80 for a single journey, £3.80 for a return and £17.50 for a weekly ticket.

The increase comes just three weeks since both South Wales Transport and First Cymru announced fare increases for service buses across the region that took effect at the end of March.
