Swansea Bay’s scenic promenade is set to be lit up at night from Mumbles all the way to St Helen’s sports ground.
The popular walking and cycling route is used by thousands of residents and visitors every week.
Swansea Council is installing more than 300 energy efficient LED lighting bollards along the popular walking and cycling route so that users of the route can feel safer during the evening.
The low-level lighting bollards are being installed every 14m along the prom, following an investment of more than £400,000. Each energy-efficient light is expected to cost just £15 per year to light up.
The work has been carried out in phases and has now seen bollards installed on the stretch of prom between the foot of Brynmill Terrace and the Secret Beach Bar & Kitchen. Works are expected to be fully complete in the coming few weeks.
Andrew Stevens, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Infrastructure, said: “The promenade welcomes thousands of people every week. The lights mean they can spend more time enjoying the sea air and spectacular views.
“The lights have been chosen for their energy-efficiency and are a cost-effective method of enhancing the route, helping to make people feel safer in the evenings.”
The Mumbles section of the promenade is also undergoing a major seawall upgrade, improving sea defences between Knab Rock and Oystermouth Square.
The scheme includes the remodelling of this section, making it more user-friendly for pedestrians and cyclists. The council say that part of the plan is for energy-efficient festoon lighting to be installed on the prom between Mumbles’ Quarry car park to the Mermaid Cafe Bar & Restaurant, draped between new lighting columns that will allow the prom to be accessible and well used by night.

Really good edition to the seafront. I just hope they can sort the timing of the lights out. Currenlty some sections are on, whilst others are off and visa-versa..
