Jack, a well‑known Cardiff cabbie, vanished on the night of 5 October 1979 after radioing in to say he had picked up a fare from a pub in Fairwater. He was never heard from again.
His blood‑stained taxi was discovered abandoned later that evening on Treoes Lane, near the Waterton Industrial Estate in Bridgend. Three days later, Jack’s body was found 11 miles away on Cowbridge Common. He had suffered catastrophic head injuries.
Despite hundreds of statements, forensic examinations and repeated reviews over the decades, his killer has never been identified.
South Wales Police’s Specialist Crime Review Unit has now re‑examined exhibits and re‑interviewed witnesses in a renewed push to finally solve the case.
Detective Chief Inspector Matt Davies said the force remains determined to bring answers to Jack’s family.
“We have been working on reviewing this unsolved murder for several years and the case has been the subject of media coverage and a TV documentary,” he said.
“Tragically, his daughter Jean, who featured in the documentary and expressed her hope that the killer would be found, passed away recently before she was able to see justice for her dad.”
DCI Davies said detectives believe someone still holds the key to the truth.
“Despite the passage of time, we remain as committed as ever to bring justice for Jack and his family. If the killer is still alive, they have lived with the knowledge of what they did for almost 47 years. I’d appeal to anyone who believes they know the identity of the killer to do the right thing and come forward.”
Police are urging anyone with information — no matter how small — to contact the Review Unit on 101, quoting occurrence 2000304349, or submit details via the Major Incident Public Portal at: https://mipp.police.uk/operation/62SWP20B17-PO1
