The 24-year-old midfielder has penned a three-year contract with the Championship side, with an option for a further 12 months, subject to international clearance.
Galbraith, a product of Manchester United’s academy, arrives at the Swansea.com Stadium following a standout 2024-25 season with Leyton Orient. He played a pivotal role in Orient’s push to the League One play-off final, registering six goals and seven assists across 51 appearances in all competitions.
His performances attracted interest from several Championship clubs, including Sheffield United and Huddersfield Town, but it was Swansea who ultimately secured his signature.
Head coach Alan Sheehan expressed his excitement about the acquisition, stating, “Ethan has terrific technical ability which I am sure Swansea fans will appreciate and enjoy when they get to see him in action. He is hungry and motivated for the challenge of stepping up to the Championship”
Galbraith, who will wear the number 30 shirt, is expected to bolster Swansea’s midfield options but is also capable of playing in multiple positions, including right-back. His versatility and football intelligence have been widely praised, with former coaches and analysts describing him as a “Premier League player in the making”
Director of Football Richard Montague highlighted the club’s long-standing interest in Galbraith, noting that Swansea had previously made a failed bid in January. “The calibre of clubs who were interested in him underlines the quality he possesses,” Montague said. “When Alan and I spoke to him, he made clear how much he wanted to be part of the club and the project here”
The move marks Swansea’s fifth signing of a busy summer transfer window, following the arrivals of Zeidane Inoussa, Melker Widell, Ricardo Santos, Cameron Burgess, and Bobby Wales. Galbraith’s addition is seen as a key part of the club’s strategy to build a squad capable of challenging for promotion to the Premier League.
Global Head of Analysis and Recruitment Adam Worth added, “Ethan is a player our recruitment and scouting teams have followed keenly for a considerable amount of time. We believe he has qualities that make him an excellent fit for Swansea”
Galbraith’s journey to Swansea has been one of steady progression. After leaving Linfield for Manchester United in 2017, he made a senior appearance for the Red Devils and had loan spells at Doncaster Rovers and Salford City before joining Leyton Orient in 2023. His development has also seen him earn seven caps for Northern Ireland, with recent appearances in friendlies against Denmark and Iceland.
As Swansea gear up for the 2025-26 Championship campaign, fans will be eager to see how Galbraith integrates into Sheehan’s system and whether he can help propel the Swans back into the top flight.
