Court appearance in Newport
Wallis, 41, of Butetown, Cardiff, appeared before Newport Crown Court on Monday (22 September) where she represented herself.
She faces two charges relating to the alleged possession of a false identity document.
The charges
- The first charge alleges possession of an identity document with improper intention, namely a British passport in the name of Jamie Wallis, “that was false and that she knew or believed to be false”.
- The second charge alleges possession of a false identity document in the same name.
The alleged offences date back to April 2022, when Wallis was still serving as a Conservative MP.
Trial date set
Wallis did not enter pleas to the charges during the hearing. Judge Tracey Lloyd-Clarke, the Recorder of Cardiff, fixed a trial date for 2 November 2026.
Wallis, who appeared in court wearing a black dress and carrying a pink coat, was released on conditional bail.
Background
Wallis succeeded Labour’s Madeleine Moon as MP for Bridgend in 2019 and held the seat until the 2024 General Election.
She became the UK’s first openly transgender MP in 2022.
Wallis has previously appeared in court on unrelated matters, including a conviction in 2023 for harassing her ex‑wife.

This is some horrendous transphobic bullshit. It takes time to update documents. The policy is supposed to be that an identity document (e.g. passport) in the old name + a change of name deed is for all purposes legally equivalent to an identity document in the new name. So simply possessing —and even using— a passport in your old name is not a crime, as long as you’re not using it fraudulently. Solidarity with Wallis. (She’s a Tory so I don’t agree with her politics, but that’s beside the point here.) This case is legal harassment against her.
