On Sunday, crowds gathered at the steps of Swansea’s Guildhall to hear the city’s official accession proclamation for HM King Charles III.
Flowers were laid at the rotunda flag for HM Queen Elizabeth II.
The short ceremony saw the official proclamation on the death of Her Majesty and on the accession of King Charles III.
The Proclamation was read out publicly in Welsh and in English.
It was made by the High Sheriff of West Glamorgan Stephen H Rogers Esq JP in English and by Deputy Lord-Lieutenant Rowland Jones in Welsh in the presence of His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of West Glamorgan, Louise Fleet CStJ JP, the Deputy Leader of Swansea Council Andrea Lewis, The Lord Mayor of the City and County of Swansea Mike Day and the Lord Mayor’s Chaplain Brian Farr.
Although the heir to the throne automatically becomes monarch on the death of the sovereign, the accession proclamations are the formal announcements of the succession at national and county levels.
