Llanelli Town AFC has announced the appointment of Colin Staples as the club’s new General Manager, ahead of their debut season in the FAW Cymru Premier League.
Staples will officially begin his role on August 1st, bringing decades of experience in Welsh football to Stebonheath Park. The club described him as having “the drive and passion to help move the club forward” as they prepare for top-flight competition.
Colin Staples is best known for his work in the women’s game, having served as Head Coach of Swansea City Ladies during their 2020–21 double-winning season. Under his leadership, the team secured both the Welsh Premier Women’s League title and the League Cup, remaining unbeaten and conceding just three goals across all competitions
His coaching journey began in the Swansea area with Gowerton Sports, before being invited to support the original Swansea Ladies team in the English league. Over the years, he’s held roles across the Women’s Super League, Welsh Premier Women’s League, and with Wales U17s and U19s, earning a reputation for tactical discipline and player development.
Staples stepped down from his role with Swansea City Ladies in 2021 to focus on personal commitments, but remained active in Welsh football circles. His return to a senior leadership role at Llanelli Town marks a new chapter in a career defined by grassroots dedication and competitive success.
Llanelli Town’s promotion to the Cymru Premier has sparked renewed ambition at the club, and Staples’ appointment is seen as a strategic move to strengthen operations both on and off the pitch. Supporters have welcomed the news, with many praising his experience and commitment to Welsh football.
Further announcements regarding squad updates and pre-season fixtures are expected in the coming weeks as the Reds prepare for their opening match of the 2025–26 campaign.
