The Barratt Developments South Wales team took to Aberavon Beach in Neath Port Talbot for a day of litter picking – as part of its national cleanup campaign, The Big Barratt Cleanup, with charity CleanupUK.
The housebuilder says that households in Wales throw away over 1.5 million tonnes of rubbish every year – a lot of which doesn’t make it to landfill or recycling centres. Instead, it ends up as litter, contaminating the land waterways and oceans – damaging the natural environment and putting Welsh wildlife at risk.
The Barratt team cleared a whopping 30 refuse sacks’ worth of litter — playing their part in CleanupUK’s mission to create a world where everyone has access to litter-free public spaces. Barratt teams from across the UK have also taken part in similar cleanups this spring.
On completing the cleanup, Lewis Allwood, Charity Champion for Barratt Developments South Wales, said: “At Barratt, one of our core objectives is to create places where people and nature can thrive. This was therefore the perfect opportunity for the team to come together and play our part as individuals in the sustainability of the communities we build in.
“We’re so lucky to have such beautiful natural landscapes, just like Aberavon Beach, on our doorsteps in South Wales — and we hope others, too, will be inspired to play their part in keeping our local environment clean as we head into the summer months.”
The housebuilder has committed to a £100,000 partnership with CleanupUK through the Barratt Foundation – dedicated to initiatives helping communities thrive in a way that benefits both the environment and local residents.
