The Swans collapsed at West Brom despite going ahead thanks to Zan Vipotnik’s classy finish after only 12 seconds and then doubling the advantage through Ethan Galbraith.
But four Albion half-time changes turned the game on its head with the Baggies striking back immediately.
Norwegian forward Aune Heggebo scored a quick-fire double to turn the match on its head before Jayson Molumby’s late winner left the Swans shellshocked and gave the Baggies all three points.
Swansea now fall to 21st in the Championship table only kept out of the bottom three virtue of a superior goal difference to Portsmouth – a side they meet at the Swansea.com Stadium in nine days time.
After the match Swans boss Matos feels togetherness will be key now to turn his sides fortunes around.
“Frustration is the right word. We gave a first half that we could build from, which is most important,” said Matos.
“I think we are in the beginning of a new process.
“We are not happy with the situation, but this is what we need to fight and that’s the next step.
“It is not easy for us; it is not easy for the supporters. But if we are all together, we will get out of this situation.
“The most important thing is that the next game is like a final.
“Don’t wait for the game to come to us, go dominate, go pressing, go attacking. That’s we need for the future.
“We gave energy, desire, pressing and control with the ball [In the first-half].
“But in the second half we got deeper and deeper and started losing the duels and second balls and, in the end, we started to lose control.
“We knew West Brom would make changes and we knew we needed to maintain the momentum from the first half because they would come full of energy.
“We needed to control with calmness on the game and then after 10, 15 minutes, get back into it, and we missed that.
“I think when you look to the table, you need to see that you are in relegation fight. [But] heading now to December, there are still a lot of games.
“What I see now is that we need togetherness. We need to stay together as a club because the moment is not easy, the moment is not what we all want.”
