The utility firm said that the work would be paused during the Summer holidays to reduce the impact on the area during the busy tourist season.
Wales & West Utilities Adam Smith is managing the work and said: “We have listened to concerns from the local Mumbles Road business community surrounding the works impact during the summer months and have decided to pause the project.
“The remaining work will resume after Christmas and will involve work to upgrade gas pipes on Mumbles Road, between the junctions of Norton Avenue and Bethany Lane.
“We know that working in areas like this is not ideal and we would like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding.
“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across the Swansea area. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.
“This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport hydrogen and biomethane, so we can all play our part in a green future.”
