The colourful window vinyl artwork by local artist, Hannah Davies is set to remain in place as a temporary measure until new tenants move in – something council leader Rob Stewart has teased will be announced after the General Election.
The prominent former Debenhams store in Swansea’s Quadrant Shopping Centre has remained closed since the retailer went into administration in 2021.
Swansea Council purchased the store in April 2023 with £2.85m funding from the Welsh Government’s Transforming Towns programme.
Writing on social media, leader of Swansea Council Rob Stewart said: “Some temporary vinyl screens have gone up on the windows of the old Debenhams store in the Quadrant. The lovely artwork was created by local artist Hannah Davies of Hannah Davies illustration
“This is a temporary visual improvement ahead of big announcements coming after the election period on new tenants – more news soon.”

Carmarthenshire County Council have also bought the former Debenhams store on St Catherines Walk in Carmarthen Town Centre. It has had occasional use as a pop-up shop during the Christmas period, however a £15m UK Government Levelling Up grant will help transform that building into a cultural and wellbeing hub.
