Carmarthenshire Council are advising residents who usually have refuse and recycling collections on Thursdays and Fridays that there will be no collections this week over the Jubilee Bank Holiday.
The council say blue bags, black bags and food bins will not be collected on Thursday, June 2 and Friday, June 3, with householders being advised to put out on their next scheduled blue or black collection day – in two weeks time.
Food bins are collected weekly.
The council say that black bags, blue bags and food waste can also be taken to their recycling centres in Trostre (Llanelli), Nantycaws (Carmarthen), Wernddu (Ammanford), and Whitland, which are all open as normal on the bank holidays – but are urging people to book an appointment on the council website first.
The council is intending to collect hygiene waste and garden waste on these days, although crews are likely to start earlier than usual so householders are advised to put out their waste the night before collection day – however this could be subject to change in some areas at short notice.
Glass bottles and jars are not currently collected at the kerbside, with residents asked to recycle at their nearest bottle bank instead.
Carmarthenshire County Council’s Director of Environment Ainsley Williams said: “We apologise to residents for any inconvenience caused. We are currently in negotiations with our crews and the unions in relation to pay scales which unfortunately means that we are not in a position to carry out our main bin collections over the bank holidays.
“We are proactively engaging with the workforce and unions and hope to reach a resolution as soon as possible.”
Carmarthenshire Council have previously announced changes to their recycling and refuse collection in future, with plans to move black bag collections to once every three weeks from the Autumn.
