Welsh midfielder Ollie Bostock kept his cool to hammer home the winning penalty in a dramatic shoot-out win to see his side reach the fourth round of the competition after a dramatic back-and-forth tie.

After a tepid first period, the Swans would take the lead through South Korean winger Ji-Sung Eom’s curling effort just after the restart.

Swansea’s lead, though, would not last long with Baggies Spanish forward Josh Maja bundling home five minutes later.

Both sides would have chances to win the match in normal time with Melker Widell, Zan Vipotnik, Ronald, and Ethan Galbraith all having opportunities, whilst Swans Malick Yalcouye would look in disbelief as his close-range effort bounced back off the woodwork in extra time.

It would be West Brom who would take the lead for the first time deep into the second period of the added half hour. Jed Wallace’s powerful first-time strike silencing the home crowd as the Baggies had looked to have settled the tie.

Still there would be more time for drama as the Swans would respond immediately to force spot kicks. Zeidane Inoussa calmly firing his first goal for the club to force a shootout.

Both sets of players of players would score their respective first four penalties before West Brom goalkeeper Josh Griffiths saved substitute Bobby Wales’ effort.

Swans would have a reprieve with Wales centre back Chris Mepham ballooning over the crossbar. But Yalcouye’s poor afternoon would continue as the on-loan Brighton midfielder’s penalty would end up in a similar place, before Bostock would calmly slot home to settle the tie.
