The council has previously received funding from the Welsh Government’s Active Travel programme to help design a walking and cycling route, linking Sketty and Uplands to the city centre.
The council has now come up with a design option which it says would see pavements and pedestrian crossings upgraded along Walter Road and Sketty Road as well as in Uplands.
The proposed scheme would also include a continuous segregated two-way cycle path along the route, making it easier for people to cycle between the city centre and the Uplands and Sketty communities.
More green space is also part of the proposed scheme as well as maintaining trees along the route.

Andrew Stevens, Cabinet Member for Environment & Infrastructure, said: “Sketty Road and Walter Road is a key route into and out of the city centre and provides links to a number of communities including Uplands and Sketty.
“These communities, along with the city centre, offer a wide range of facilities and it’s vital we do what we can to ensure residents can access them by which ever mode of transport they choose – whether that’s by car, walking, cycling or using public transport.
“Our ongoing work in recent years has enabled us to create better walking and cycling routes in communities across the city. It now makes sense for these communities to have a direct link into the city centre which can be used safely by pedestrians and cyclists.
“The designs we have come up with, provide an excellent solution to creating these links and we want the public to tell us what they think.”
Residents and businesses in both communities, along with the wider public are now being asked to get involved and give their views on the proposals.
As well as viewing the scheme online, a series of drop-in sessions have also been organised and the public and local businesses are being encouraged to attend if they can.
The council say that people from its transport team will be on hand to explain the proposals and answer questions on Wednesday 17 January, 12.30pm – 4.45pm at Swansea Wellbeing Centre, Walter Road, SA1 5PQ and on Tuesday 30 January, 1.00pm – 5.45pm at St Paul’s Parish Centre Hall, De La Beche Road, SA2 9A.
The council say that once the consultation is complete, the responses will be considered, ahead of a further bid to the Welsh Government to secure funding to construct the new route.
